Where it started
The diner was a real location with mixed fluorescent and tungsten light. Straight out of camera, the booths looked green and the windows looked like a different show.
The grade
We balanced every practical to one warm white, then let the street outside the windows cool a little more each episode. By episode six the glass is nearly blue, and nobody on set changed a light.
Graded in HDR first, then trimmed for the broadcast version so the neon never clips on a home TV.
